NOTE: Remember to restart your computer after turning the UAC privileges back on. If UAC has not been turned back on then the installation will fail.

Installing ActiveX Controls on Windows Vista

Q: I have problems when installing the EPiServer ActiveX components when running Windows Vista.

A: The UAC should be enabled while installing the ActiveX controls. There is no reason this is needed. It is supposed to work this way.

Activate User Account Control (UAC) functionality

Q: How do you activate the User Account Control (UAC) functionality in Windows Vista?

A: The User Account Control (UAC) is turned on by default in Windows Vista but can be turned off in User Accounts section of the Control Panel.

To turn on/off the User Account Control (UAC):

  1. Click on the Windows Icon/Start Menu and select the Control Panel.
  2. Click on User Accounts and the "Make changes on your user account" page should appear. Select Turn User Account Control on or off.
  3. Check the check box to turn (UAC) on and deselect the check box to turn it off.
  4. Click on the OK button.
  5. Restart the computer.

Elevating Privileges

Q: How do you elevate your privileges to install the ActiveX controls in Windows Vista?

A: If UAC s set up to run in Admin Approval Mode (default) there is a prompt where you can allow or deny the application to perform tasks that need administrator privileges.

Q: How do you install ActiveX controls?

A: After logging into EPiServer Edit mode you need to click on the Components tab and then click on the Install version XX button.
