DHTML editor may load slowly and cause IE to stop responding

Versions: 4.20.0.0 - 4.22.0.0, FAQ number: 100, Old FAQ number: 1044

Edit mode in EPiServer and especially the DHTML-editor renders a lot of images and javascript, in addition to this a page itself may contain multiple images and javascript. If you have configured Internet Explorer to use a low level of caching the edit tab may load very slow. It may also cause a Publish operation in edit mode to stop responding without any changes saved, if you then try to refresh or click on another item in the tree nothing happens until you restart your browser.

As of EPiServer 4.22 the editor has been optimized to cache images on the client as much as possible but we highly recommend that you check your Internet Explorer settings if you experience any of these problems, by following this guide:

1. Open Internet Explorer and click on menu option Tools -> Internet Options....

2. On the tab General click on the Settings.. button in the Temporary Internet Files area.

3. The setting Check for new pages should be set to Automatically. Se screendump below.
